Other Critical Actions for 2018–2020

  1. Set safety plans for high risk corridors within the network to direct investment to reduce Fatal and Serious Injury (FSI) risk
  2. Apply Safe System principles and treatments to all road infrastructure investment programs
  3. Better protect light passenger vehicle and light commercial vehicle occupants by updating to the latest available international crash standards
  4. Develop a national speed enforcement strategy in cooperation with police and explore greater use of technology for a range of enforcement outcomes
  5. Reduce distraction from mobile device use
  6. Strengthen efforts to reduce drink driving
  7. Strengthen graduated licensing systems (GLS) for car and motorcycle drivers
  8. Introduce a rating scheme for motorcycle protective clothing
  9. Establish a system for reporting of a national matched injuries series using an agreed serious injury definition
  10. Remote road safety—identify and implement key interventions
  11. Require contractors on government-funded construction projects to improve the safety of vulnerable road users around heavy vehicles through safety technology and education programs
  12. Investigate the introduction of safer, cleaner heavy freight vehicles by minimising regulatory barriers
